Innovation for Peace:

The Ukraine Siren Alerts Story

Introduction

Drawing on my experiences with Aurora Intel and deeply personal connections to Ukraine through my fiancée, I was moved to act as the conflict unfolded in 2022. Witnessing the limitations of Ukraine's existing alert systems and recognizing the general unpreparedness of its citizens for such emergencies, I leveraged my insights from living in Israel—where conflict and the necessity for efficient alert systems are a reality—to develop Ukraine Siren Alerts. This modern platform was designed to quickly inform people of alerts and provide guidance on how to respond, enhancing their safety and resilience.

How it worked

UASA Siren Alert Map

UASA v1: Sound based recognition

At the conflict's onset, with no digital system in place, Ukraine Siren Alerts employed sound recognition AI to analyze live streams across Ukraine, identifying when sirens sounded in order to send alerts.

UASA v2+: Integration with Digital APIs

As local governments began digitizing their alert systems, we adapted. The UASA platform aggregated data from these fragmented digital sources, including thousands of websites and Telegram channels, to accurately map alerts and their specifics.

UASA v3: Preemptive Alerts

In a groundbreaking move, we integrated intelligence from observers in Russia and Belarus, predicting potential air raids before they happened. This system boasted a success rate of over 90%, significantly increasing the timeliness of alerts.

UASA v4: Continuous Improvement

Collaboration with military personnel was key to our iterative process, enhancing the system's reliability and effectiveness in real-time threat detection and response.

Media Coverage

The media's response to the Ukraine Siren Alerts project has been both humbling and validating. An article by Euronews captured the essence of the urgency and innovation behind the project, portraying it as a swift response to the immediate need for a modern alert system in Ukraine. Their coverage highlighted the project's roots in my personal connections to Ukraine and my determination to bring a semblance of safety to its citizens
